Homeopathy

Complement your healthcare with Homeopathy

Homeopathy is the art of treating like with like. It is safe, non-toxic and tailored to your individual symptoms - a gentle, whole person, approach to health! Better still it

complements other treatments and therapies beautifully.

What is Homeopathy?

Homeopathy is a holistic complimentary therapy that addresses the whole person –

mentally, physically and emotionally. It was first described by Hippocrates 2,500 years

ago, but really took form in the late 18th century in the hands of Samuel Hahnemann,

a German doctor and chemist. The word homeopathy comes from Greek and means

‘similar suffering’ - referring to the central philosophy that a substance that, in large doses, can produce symptoms in a healthy person, can diminish those symptoms in a

sick person.

Homeopaths follow two basic laws

The Law of Similars – (or ‘like cures like’) which means matching the symptom picture of an illness or injury to the symptom picture of the homoeopathic remedy. For example, chopping onions can cause your nose and eyes to run with copious amounts of water. The onion - Allium cepa - can be used homeopathically to treat colds and hayfever where the main symptoms include runny eyes and nose.

The Law of Minimum Dose – which means using as little of the remedy as possible. Homeopathic remedies are potentised to give them an energetic quality that is recognised by the body without the need for large doses.

Homeopathy relies on the skill of the homeopath to match the correct remedy to the patient to stimulate the body’s own healing mechanisms. The substances are given in minute doses to avoid unwanted side-effects. This makes them safe to use even in situations where conventional drugs could be dangerous or inadvisable (e.g. for infants or when treating pregnant women). When prescribed appropriately, homeopathic medicines are safe, non-toxic and non-addictive. They can be taken alongside drugs prescribed by your doctor and will not interfere with their beneficial action.

Why have Homeopathic treatment?

Homeopathic treatment may benefit you if you cannot tolerate conventional medicine, or if it has stopped working for you, or if you prefer the natural approach to your healthcare.

What to expect during Homeopathic consultation

Initial consultations are one hour long, during which your homeopath finds out as much about your symptoms as possible. All details will be kept in the strictest confidence.

From this information a prescription of remedies can be made which will be posted out to you the next day.

Follow-up appointments are between half an hour to 45 minutes long and are usually scheduled at 4 week intervals.

As homeopathy stimulates the whole body to heal itself your homeopath may also have some lifestyle and nutritional recommendations to support the treatment.

How many treatments do I need?

This really depends on how healthy you are! Generally speaking the longer you have had a health complaint (or related issues leading up to it) the longer the treatment required.
